US President Donald Trump reiterated his claim during a press conference at Chequers, the UK Prime Minister’s official residence, that his intervention had halted a brief conflict between India and Pakistan earlier this year, a statement that has been consistently contested by India. Trump asserted that he had personally intervened to stop seven wars since taking office, emphasizing that the situation involving India and Pakistan, two nuclear-armed nations, was brought under control due to trade considerations. “We told them if you want to trade with us, you will have to get along, and they were going at it hot and heavy,” he mentioned.
Trump also expressed disappointment in Russian President Vladimir Putin for not allowing the war in Ukraine to be included in his list of stopped conflicts. He stated, “If the price of oil comes down, Putin will have no choice but to drop out of that war.” During the conference, he and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer pledged to increase pressure on Putin. Trump raised concerns about European nations buying oil from Russia while asserting his strong ties with India, mentioning he had wished the Indian Prime Minister a happy birthday recently. He added, “I sanctioned them (India). I am willing to do other things, but not when the people I am fighting for are buying oil from Russia. That’s not playing fair with the USA.”
