Three American physicists—John Clarke, Michel Devoret, and John Martinis—have been awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics for their groundbreaking contributions to quantum tunneling and energy quantization. Their pivotal work, which dates back to experiments conducted in 1984 and 1985, involved the creation of an electronic circuit utilizing superconductors separated by a thin non-conductive layer, a configuration known as a Josephson junction. Their research has significantly advanced the field of quantum computing.

In Bihar, the Supreme Court has ordered the Election Commission (EC) to provide information regarding the exclusion of 366,000 names from the state’s voter list. The Commission reported that it has not received any complaints from affected voters, despite opposition demands for transparency concerning these omissions. During the court session, the EC stated that the majority of names added to the final electoral roll were new voters, with only a few being long-time voters, and emphasized that no complaints or appeals have been filed by any excluded voters.

Actor-turned-politician Vijay has reached out to families impacted by the recent stampede in Karur through a video call, offering condolences and pledge of support to assist them in overcoming the tragedy. The stampede occurred during a TVK event, resulting in several fatalities and leaving numerous families grieving. TVK sources noted that a team from Chennai began contacting the affected families shortly after the incident.

In infrastructure developments, the Union Cabinet has approved four new railway projects totaling ₹24,634 crores, covering 894 kilometers across four Indian states. The upgraded routes are expected to enhance access to significant tourist destinations, including Sanchi, Satpura Tiger Reserve, Bhimbetka Rock Shelters, Hazara Falls, and Navegaon National Park, thereby potentially boosting regional tourism.

In political developments, Congress leader Udit Raj stated that Tejashwi Yadav should not be considered the chief ministerial candidate for the INDIA alliance. He clarified that while Tejashwi may be the candidate for the RJD, the selection process for the bloc’s leader will be collective. This statement follows Tejashwi’s claims on social media, where he asserted that “every Bihari will be a CM this time.”
