New Delhi: Suryakumar Yadav is leading a formidable Indian T20I team that has established an effective batting template for the format. With a roster featuring explosive batters, impactful spinners, quick bowlers, and numerous all-rounders, the Indian squad possesses the necessary tools to secure victories in major tournaments.

The team clinched an ICC title in 2024 under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, ending an 11-year drought. Currently, under Yadav’s captaincy, the team has showcased even greater batting prowess, recently winning the Asia Cup 2025.

Yadav has expressed concerns regarding the potential loss of his captaincy amid Shubman Gill’s rapid ascent within the leadership hierarchy. Following his appointment as ODI captain and his new role as Test captain, Gill has now been named vice-captain of the T20I team. Sharma, who has retired from Test cricket, remains with the ODI squad for the upcoming series against Australia.

“I am very happy for him that he has become captain in two formats. He has done really well. I won’t lie, everyone feels that fear. But it is the kind of fear that keeps you motivated,” Yadav commented, as reported by the Indian Express.

The Indian T20I captain highlighted the strong relationship he shares with Gill. “The camaraderie between me and him is amazing off the field and on it. I know what he is like as a player and as a human. It just motivates me to do well, but I am happy for him,” he added.

Suryakumar, who debuted at 31 in 2021 and famously hit a six with his first ball, noted that he does not allow fear to dictate his career trajectory. He emphasized that he would not have approached his debut the way he did if he were overtly concerned about potential setbacks.

“If I was someone who got affected by things like these and thought so much about it, I wouldn’t have played my first ball in international cricket the way I did. So I have left that fear behind a long time back. I believe if I am working hard on myself, following things that have to be followed, working very hard and being honest to myself, the rest will be taken care of,” Yadav stated.
