Supreme Court Issues Notice on Plea to Remove BJP Assam’s Controversial AI Video

The Supreme Court issued a notice on Monday regarding a petition requesting the removal of an Islamophobic AI-generated video shared by the Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the social media platform ‘X.’ The video allegedly implies that Muslims would take control of the state if the BJP loses the upcoming elections.

A bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta issued the order following an application submitted by journalist Qurban Ali and Senior Advocate Anjana Prakash through a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) aimed at addressing hate speech and hate crimes nationwide.

The application claims that the problematic video was posted by BJP-Assam on September 15, 2025. It purportedly conveys a “grossly false narrative” suggesting that Assam would be overtaken by Muslims if the BJP does not retain power.

The video reportedly features individuals who appear to be Muslim, depicted as taking control of key locations in Assam, including tea estates, Guwahati airport, and various landmarks in Guwahati. It also shows images of what the video labels as illegal migrants—again, predominantly Muslim—entering Assam and acquiring government land, culminating in the assertion that the state’s population could be 90% Muslim.

The video concludes with the statement “choose your vote carefully,” which is alleged to be an attempt to sway voters.

The petitioners argue that the BJP’s Assam unit has a constitutional responsibility to uphold the secular values of the nation, yet the video actively targets and vilifies Muslims. According to the application filed by Advocate-on-Record Zafeer Ahmad, the overarching message of the video implies that the state’s worst outcome would be its takeover by Muslims, with a warning that only voting for the BJP could avert such an event.

The petitioners seek the video’s removal to mitigate potential communal unrest and animosity. Earlier, the Assam Congress filed a complaint against the state BJP over the same AI-generated video, which allegedly targeted Congress leaders while portraying the Muslim community as illegal immigrants seizing government land.
