A soldier critically injured during a gunfight with terrorists in Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday. The soldier was hurt on Friday evening when a joint search operation by the Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) began in the region’s higher reaches.
The confrontation occurred when militants opened fire on the combined forces at the Seoj Dhar forest border in the Dudu-Basantgarh area, which links Udhampur to Bhaderwah in Doda. Despite being evacuated to a hospital, the soldier did not survive.
Officials reported that the area was secured overnight, and the search operation continued the following morning. Authorities believe that two to three terrorists may still be hiding in the forested region.
To aid the search, reinforcements, including drones and sniffer dogs, were dispatched from both Udhampur and Doda. The joint forces are conducting combing operations in difficult terrain, but as of now, no fresh contact with the terrorists has been established.
