New Delhi: India is set to establish a pool of one million skilled workers to meet the increasing demand for trained individuals in various government schemes. The Ministry of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) is currently in talks with twelve central ministries to understand their need for skilled workers for the successful implementation of these schemes.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0, training will be provided to these individuals over the next two years. Discussions are underway with ministries such as home affairs, women and child development, MeitY, and new and renewable energy for programs like the Vibrant Village Programme, VIKALP, Semiconductor Mission, green hydrogen, and Surya Ghar-Muft Bijli Yojana.

According to a government official, training has already commenced for some programs, while efforts are being made to launch a pilot program in other schemes. This initiative aims to accelerate skills training in the country and build a skilled workforce for new technologies and government initiatives, ensuring smooth implementation.

Depending on their skill sets, candidates will receive short training courses or certifications to validate their prior learning, making it easier for industries to hire skilled and certified workers. This strategic move is expected to bridge the gap between demand and supply of skilled labor in the country.
