Sensex Soars 400 Points Fueled by Metal and Infrastructure Stocks

The Sensex touched an intraday high of 85,041.86, while the Nifty climbed to 26,084.10, building on the positive momentum from the opening session that was supported by strong foreign institutional investor inflows of ₹10,399 crore on Tuesday and firm global cues.

Market breadth remained positive on the BSE with 2,390 stocks advancing against 1,610 declining, while 172 remained unchanged. A total of 160 stocks hit their 52-week highs compared to 63 touching 52-week lows. As many as 177 stocks were locked in the upper circuit, while 149 hit the lower circuit.

Adani Ports emerged as the top gainer on the Nifty, surging 2.87 per cent to ₹1,458.60, followed by Adani Enterprises which jumped 2.74 per cent to ₹2,562.70. NTPC gained 2.71 per cent to ₹348.35, while JSW Steel advanced 2.63 per cent to ₹1,215.30. Power Grid completed the top five gainers with a 2.62 per cent increase to ₹295.80.

On the losing side, Bharat Electronics declined 1.49 per cent to ₹407.40, while Eternal slipped 1.05 per cent to ₹331.10. Mahindra & Mahindra fell 0.83 per cent to ₹3,549.40, followed by Larsen & Toubro which dropped 0.70 per cent to ₹3,945. Bajaj Finance shed 0.67 per cent to ₹1,065.60.

Among sectoral indices, the Nifty Next 50 outperformed with a gain of 910.40 points or 1.31 per cent to 70,173.20, while the Nifty Midcap 100 added 220.05 points or 0.37 per cent to 59,983.20. The Nifty Financial Services index rose 92 points or 0.34 per cent to 27,545.85, and the Bank Nifty inched up 101.90 points or 0.18 per cent to 58,321.40.

Trading volumes remained robust across segments, reflecting sustained investor interest amid expectations of a dovish US Federal Reserve stance and continued foreign fund inflows.
