Sensex and Nifty Maintain Midday Gains Amidst Sectoral Performance Variability

Benchmark indices continued to show modest gains at midday on Tuesday, with the Sensex trading at 80,469.92, an increase of 104.98 points or 0.13 percent from its previous close of 80,364.94. The Nifty 50 was at 24,671.40, up 36.50 points or 0.15 percent from Monday’s close of 24,634.90, as of 1:15 PM.

The Sensex opened at 80,541.77, while the Nifty started at 24,691.95, contributing to the marginal gains observed at the opening bell. The market breadth on the BSE remained negative, with 2,037 stocks declining compared to 1,894 advancing out of 4,113 stocks traded, while 182 stocks remained unchanged.

On the Nifty 50, JSW Steel led the gainers with a rise of 2.20 percent to ₹1,146.90, followed closely by UltraTech Cement, which increased by 1.42 percent to ₹12,212.00. Hindalco gained 1.35 percent to ₹764.00, Bharat Electronics Limited rose by 1.16 percent to ₹404.60, and Adani Ports rounded out the top gainers with a 1.11 percent increase to ₹1,398.50.

Conversely, InterGlobe Aviation (IndiGo) topped the losers’ list, falling 1.88 percent to ₹5,599.50. ITC and Titan Company saw declines of 1.22 percent to ₹402.30 and 0.98 percent to ₹3,367.90, respectively. Bajaj Finserv shed 0.80 percent to ₹2,008.50, and Larsen & Toubro decreased by 0.66 percent to ₹3,664.00.

Sectoral indices displayed mixed trends, with Nifty Bank showing strength, gaining 273.50 points or 0.50 percent to 54,660.20, and Nifty Financial Services rising by 52.75 points or 0.20 percent to 26,070.45. In contrast, Nifty Midcap 100 declined 128.90 points or 0.23 percent to 56,559.75, while Nifty Next 50 fell by 86.80 points or 0.13 percent to 67,896.50.

Market volatility was evident, with 131 stocks reaching 52-week highs, while 127 hit 52-week lows. Additionally, 190 stocks were locked in upper circuit limits, and 173 hit lower circuit thresholds.

Trading activity continued amid sustained foreign institutional investor outflows, with attention now turning to the Reserve Bank of India’s forthcoming monetary policy decision expected later this week.
