Markets regulator SEBI announced on Friday that Sandip Pradhan has assumed his role as Whole Time Member. Pradhan, who took charge on December 4, will be responsible for regulating and supervising market intermediaries, managing departments focused on Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs) and Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs), overseeing the information technology division, and heading the Office of Investor Assistance and Education, along with the National Institute of Securities Markets.
Before joining SEBI, Pradhan served as Director General of Income Tax (Investigation) in Pune. With a career spanning over 35 years, he has held various roles within the income tax department, managing areas such as investigation, assessment, administration, and judicial matters across cities including Ahmedabad, Surat, Mumbai, and Pune.
Pradhan holds a B.Tech in Computer Science from IIT Kanpur. Additionally, he has contributed to the development of sports in India, having served as Director General of the Sports Authority of Gujarat, Member Convener of the Olympic Task Force established by the Government of India, and as Director General of the Sports Authority of India. He played a key role in initiatives such as the Khelo India Scheme and the Target Olympic Podium Scheme.
