Toyota India has officially initiated the promotional campaign for its highly awaited electric vehicle, confirming the launch of the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV set for January 16, 2026. This model will be a rebadged version of the Maruti e Vitara, with an anticipated price range of Rs 21 lakh to Rs 26 lakh (ex-showroom).
Toyota Urban Cruiser EV: Exterior and Interior Design
While many specifics about the India-spec model remain undisclosed, a recent teaser video has revealed several design highlights. The exterior is expected to feature:
- Sleeker Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) and LED headlights connected by a thick black trim.
- A streamlined front bumper showcasing two vertical air intakes on the edges.
- A side profile that closely mirrors the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara production model, as seen at the 2025 Auto Expo.
Inside, the Urban Cruiser EV aims to deliver a premium experience, expected to include:
- A 10.1-inch digital driver’s display and a 10.25-inch touchscreen.
- Wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Ventilated front seats alongside an Infinity sound system.
Advanced Safety Features
The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is projected to come equipped with an extensive safety suite, featuring:
- Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) incorporating lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control.
- Seven airbags and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
- A 360-degree camera and front parking sensors.
- Disc brakes on all four wheels, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, and an Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS).
Motor, Battery Options, and Range
The 2026 Urban Cruiser EV is likely to share its powertrain configurations with the upcoming Maruti e Vitara. Buyers can anticipate two primary setups:
- A 49kWh battery pack paired with a 144hp motor.
- A 61kWh battery pack connected to a 174hp motor.
Although official details regarding the single-charge range for the Toyota variant are not yet available, the larger 61kWh battery pack is projected to provide a range of up to 543 kilometers on a single charge.
