The Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted extensive raids at over 300 locations across various districts in the Valley on Wednesday, targeting individuals linked to the banned organization Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir (JIJK). These operations took place in Kulgam, Pulwama, Shopian, Baramulla, and Ganderbal.

In Ganderbal, the police carried out thorough searches at multiple sites, focusing on individuals and premises associated with JIJK, which is prohibited under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Approximately 500 people were interrogated during these operations, with several being moved to District Jail Mattan in Anantnag under preventive detention laws, according to reports.

A police spokesperson reported the recovery of a significant amount of “incriminating materials, including documents, digital devices, and printed content that had direct links with the banned group.” In Kulgam alone, more than 200 locations were raided, complemented by over 400 cordon-and-search operations in the district over the past week.

Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have not connected these raids with ongoing investigations into “terror modules” or blast cases. The police indicated that the raids are part of their efforts following the disruption of an alleged “inter-state and transnational terror module” linked to a car explosion that occurred near Delhi’s Red Fort metro station, resulting in eight fatalities.

Additionally, the Deputy Inspector General of Police for the South Kashmir Range led a high-level security review at the Range Police Headquarters in Anantnag, assessing the situation following recent incidents and emphasizing the need for greater coordination and vigilance across all districts.

Earlier reports indicated a preemptive crackdown hours before the Delhi blast, with operations targeting around 10 districts in the Valley. Approximately 100 locals were detained in various districts, and over 70 locations were searched.

In north Kashmir’s Baramulla, police reported conducting an operation that involved searching 16 properties linked to individuals from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) or Pakistan, as well as 23 locations associated with “over ground workers” (OGWs).
