Amritsar Police Uncover Cross-Border Arms and Narcotics Smuggling Network

NEW DELHI: The Amritsar police have dismantled a cross-border arms and narcotics smuggling network linked to Pakistan. Punjab’s Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, announced the developments in a post on X on Saturday, stating, “In an intelligence-led operation, Counter Intelligence Amritsar busts a cross-border arms & narcotics smuggling module with links to Pakistan & apprehends two operatives.”

The arrested individuals have been identified as Gurjant Singh and Gurvel Singh, both from Tarn Taran. Authorities seized 2.5 kg of heroin along with five advanced pistols and magazines during the operation.

Yadav indicated that preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects were operating under the direction of a smuggler based in Pakistan, tasked with transporting contraband across the border. The seized firearms were reportedly intended for distribution to gangsters and criminals, aiming to exacerbate unlawful activities in Punjab.

An FIR has been lodged at the SSOC police station in Amritsar, and further inquiries are underway to uncover the full extent of the network’s connections, both forwards and backwards.

This operation follows another incident on October 2, in which Amritsar police arrested five operatives, including a juvenile, and confiscated 1.5 kg of heroin along with several pistols from a separate smuggling network also linked to Pakistan, as reported by police commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.
