In Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, a pregnant Muslim woman, Shama Parveen, has alleged that a lady doctor at the district hospital refused to assist with her delivery, citing her refusal to treat Muslim patients. Parveen was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday morning but reportedly did not receive care despite being in labor.
A video shared on social media highlights her claims. In the footage, Parveen states, “I lay on the bed, but the doctor refused to treat me and even instructed others not to send me to the operation theater.” Her husband, Arman, corroborated the account in a separate video, asserting that the doctor examined other patients while deliberately skipping over his wife and another Muslim woman.
Parveen confronted the doctor, alleging discrimination based on religion. “I told her she was differentiating between Hindus and Muslims, but still she ignored me,” she stated.
The incident has garnered significant attention, raising concerns about religious bias in healthcare. The case reflects ongoing discussions about discrimination in medical settings and the implications for patients from marginalized communities.
