Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually launched the second entry point and a new railway terminal at Cherlapalli near Hyderabad on Monday.

During the inauguration, Modi emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing basic infrastructure to improve passenger safety and comfort, as well as connectivity.

Telangana’s Chief Minister, A. Revanth Reddy, highlighted the importance of railway development for states like Telangana and urged the central government to facilitate the construction of a new Greenfield highway and railway line directly linking Hyderabad to the Machilipatnam port in Andhra Pradesh.

The renovation of the Cherlapalli Railway Station’s second entry and the new terminal is estimated to cost around ₹413 crore. The Hyderabad-Secunderabad twin city area is currently served by three main railway terminals: Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and Kacheguda. To accommodate the city’s growing demands, the Lingampalli terminal was developed on the western side, and now Cherlapalli has been enhanced as an additional terminal.

Situated on the eastern side of Hyderabad, an area witnessing swift development, Cherlapalli is conveniently located near the Outer Ring Road. This station has been selected for redevelopment to alleviate congestion at the other rail terminals and specifically cater to passengers in the eastern part of the city.

The upgraded station will have the capability to manage an additional 15 pairs of train services, featuring 4 new high-level platforms along with extended facilities on the existing 5 platforms to accommodate longer trains. Furthermore, the station will include 10 new railway lines, bringing the total to 19 lines.
