Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch Bihar’s “Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana” on Friday, which will provide Rs 10,000 to the bank accounts of 75 lakh women across the state, amounting to a total of Rs 7,500 crore. According to officials, the initiative aims to make women “aatmanirbhar” (self-sufficient) by promoting self-employment and livelihood opportunities.

The ceremony will be conducted via video conferencing. The scheme is designed to be universal, offering financial assistance to one woman from each family in Bihar, thereby enabling them to initiate employment or livelihood activities of their choosing. An initial grant of Rs 10,000 will be followed by additional financial support of up to Rs 2 lakh in subsequent phases.

Community involvement is key to the initiative, with resource persons affiliated with self-help groups providing essential training. To enhance the marketability of their products, plans are underway to further develop “gramin haat” (rural markets) throughout the state.

This program is part of a broader set of development and welfare measures introduced by the National Democratic Alliance governments at both the Central and state levels, as they aim to secure electoral support in the upcoming polls.
