Prime Minister Modi and Other Leaders Grieve Over Tirupati Stampede Tragedy

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow regarding the tragic stampede that occurred near Vishnu Nivasam in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, resulting in several fatalities. He noted that the state government is providing support to the victims affected by this unfortunate event.

In a message posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), the Prime Minister’s Office conveyed: “I am deeply pained by the incident in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. My heartfelt condolences go out to those who have lost loved ones. I pray for the swift recovery of the injured, and I appreciate the assistance being provided by the Andhra Pradesh Government.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also shared his condolences and expressed his hopes for the recovery of those injured. In his post on X, he said, “I am saddened by the unfortunate stampede incident at the Tirupati temple. My sincere sympathies to the families of the deceased, and I wish a quick recovery to the injured. I am profoundly disturbed by the occurrence at the Vishnu Nivasam ticket counter, and I pray for the departed souls of the devotees to rest in peace.”

Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, expressed his sympathies and encouraged Congress leaders and workers to extend all possible support to those affected during this challenging time.

According to officials from Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), the stampede led to the deaths of six individuals and left many others injured. The incident took place at the ticket counter for ‘darshan’ tokens at Tirumala Srivari Vaikuntha Dwara.

TTD Chairman BR Naidu’s office confirmed the situation, stating that six pilgrims tragically lost their lives, with only one victim identified so far. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is actively monitoring the situation and has plans to visit the families of the deceased on Thursday morning.

The Chief Minister’s office issued a statement asserting, “This is indeed a regrettable event, with six pilgrims losing their lives. CM Chandrababu Naidu is taking this matter seriously and has expressed dissatisfaction with the management by officials during a teleconference. He will personally visit the families of the victims tomorrow at 11:45 AM and has emphasized the need to prevent such incidents in the future while closely overseeing developments related to this tragedy.”
