National Conference leader Omar Abdullah took a significant step by submitting his claim to form the Jammu and Kashmir government. He met with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and presented letters of support from various parties and Independent candidates.

“I have just met with LG Manoj Sinha and handed over the support letters from NC, Congress, CPI(M), AAP, and independent candidates. I have requested him to schedule the oath-taking ceremony at the earliest,” said a spokesperson for the JKNC.

The National Conference-Congress alliance secured a majority in the recent Assembly elections, with NC leading the coalition to victory with 48 seats. Despite the challenges posed by the central government’s rule in the Union Territory, Abdullah remains optimistic about the government formation process.

“The LG will forward the documents to Rashtrapati Bhawan and then to the Home Ministry, a process expected to take 2-3 days. Hopefully, if everything goes smoothly, the swearing-in ceremony could take place by Wednesday. It is important to ensure that Jammu’s interests are not overlooked in the new government,” Abdullah explained.

His father and NC chief Farooq Abdullah also expressed confidence in Omar Abdullah’s leadership abilities, as he was unanimously elected as the head of the National Conference legislature Party.

The Congress’ formal support and letters from independent and AAP candidates have cleared the path for the National Conference to stake its claim to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir.

These recent developments indicate a positive momentum towards the formation of the new government in the region.
