New Delhi: In a significant move for the India women’s cricket team, English coach Nicholas Lee is set to become the new strength and conditioning coach once the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 concludes.
The WPL is scheduled to begin on January 9 and will run until February 5, with matches taking place in Navi Mumbai and Vadodara. Lee, who possesses extensive coaching experience, is expected to elevate the performance of the Women in Blue.
A source informed PTI on Thursday, “Lee will take over as the new strength and conditioning coach of the Indian women’s cricket team after the WPL.”
Following the WPL, India’s women will face Australia in a multi-format series from February 15 to March 9. This series will follow the completion of the WPL, and it will be intriguing to observe the team’s performance following the high-profile tournament.
Nicholas Lee’s Coaching Background
Nicholas Lee has played 13 first-class matches, scoring a total of 490 runs as a right-handed batter; however, his coaching career has been the highlight of his professional journey. Most recently, he was the strength and conditioning coach for the Gulf Giants during the fourth season of the UAE’s ILT20.
Additionally, Lee served as the strength and conditioning coach for the Afghanistan men’s cricket team from January 2024 to December 2025 and held the position of head of physical performance at the Bangladesh Cricket Board from March 2020 to January 2024. His upcoming role with the Indian women’s team will be closely watched as fans and experts alike anticipate improvements in the squad’s performance in the months ahead.
