New Zealand has announced its 15-member squads for the upcoming three-match ODI series and five-match T20I series against India, commencing on January 11. Notably, Jayden Lennox, who has excelled in domestic cricket, has received his first international call-up. Head coach Rob Walter stated that the team management has observed Lennox for some time and believes he has the potential to be a consistent performer for the Black Caps.
“Jayden has been an identified player of interest for some time and has some good New Zealand ‘A’ experience under his belt. He’s consistently been one of the top performers in white-ball cricket domestically for a number of seasons,” Walter said in a statement released by New Zealand Cricket.
Kane Williamson, a key figure in New Zealand’s batting lineup, will not participate in the series against India due to his commitments in the SA20 league. Although he was not originally selected in the auction, he has been brought into the Durban Super Giants to replace Taijul Islam.
“Kane Williamson is unavailable for ODI selection due to commitments in the SA20 league,” the New Zealand statement confirmed.
Other notable absentees include Nathan Smith, who is sidelined due to a side injury, Blair Tickner (shoulder), and Mark Chapman (ankle), who have not yet regained full fitness and are following their respective return-to-play plans. Chapman is expected to be available for the T20 series.
Ben Sears, returning from his time in Melbourne, was also excluded from the ODI squad as he continues his recovery program, though reports indicate he is making positive strides and is projected to be available for the Super Smash.
