Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Sunil Singh has issued a stern warning ahead of the vote counting for the Bihar Assembly elections, alleging that there have been attempts in the past to tamper with the electoral mandate. He cautioned that if similar actions were attempted this time, it could result in significant public protests.
Singh stated, “Many of our candidates were forcibly defeated in 2020. I have advised all officials involved in the counting process that if you overturn the choice made by the public, you will witness protests reminiscent of those seen on the streets of Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, here in Bihar as well.” He emphasized the importance of being vigilant and urged officials to respect the public’s decision.
In response to Singh’s comments, Bihar’s Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar announced that law enforcement is taking the statement seriously, revealing that a First Information Report (FIR) is being filed concerning what has been characterized as an undesirable and inflammatory statement.
However, the characterization of Singh’s remarks as inflammatory has drawn criticism on social media, with users arguing that warning of public unrest in the event of a stolen mandate does not constitute incitement.
Singh further expressed confidence that the RJD-led alliance would secure between 140 to 160 seats, paving the way for a government led by Tejashwi Yadav.
The state conducted elections in two phases on November 6 and 11, with vote counting scheduled to commence at 8 am on November 14.
