MP Ziaur Rahman Barq Under House Arrest Before Meeting Police Crackdown Victims in Bareilly

Samajwadi Party Member of Parliament Ziaur Rahman Barq has been placed under house arrest in Sambhal, as the party prepares a delegation visit to Bareilly amid increasing governmental crackdowns following a protest linked to the “I Love Muhammad” campaign.

A heavy police presence has been stationed outside Barq’s residence since the previous evening, according to his aides. The delegation, led by senior party leader Mata Prasad, was set to visit Bareilly today, accompanied by 13 other senior party members.

However, authorities have denied permission for the delegation’s travel, citing concerns regarding law and order. This decision aligns with heightened security measures in Bareilly, which has recently experienced unrest.

The unrest in Bareilly was sparked by the distribution of “I Love Muhammad” posters, which resulted in police action. Reports indicate that police have been detaining Muslim youths and minors from their homes without informing their families. Additionally, there have been allegations of property demolitions targeting the Muslim community, with bulldozers being deployed to seize their properties.

The state government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has pledged to take stringent action against individuals believed to have instigated the violence. In contrast, opposition parties and human rights organizations have criticized the extensive arrests and demolitions of Muslim properties as forms of “collective punishment.”
