Australia captain Mitchell Marsh has joined an elite list by surpassing 2,000 runs in T20I cricket. He became the fourth Australian batter to reach the landmark, following David Warner, Aaron Finch, and Glenn Maxwell. Marsh reached the milestone in the second T20I against India, needing just four runs at the start of the innings and achieving it in the second over of the chase. Impressively, he is now the third-fastest Australian to cross the 2,000-run mark in the shortest format.
Meanwhile, India had a rough day with the bat in the first innings. Barring Abhishek Sharma, all the other batters struggled to get going as the other five batters contributed only 15 runs. Opener Shubman Gill had a slow start to the day, scoring five runs off 10 balls, while Sanju Samson was promoted to number three, but he failed to make the most of the opportunity, scoring two runs.
Captain Suryakumar Yadav departed for one run, and it triggered a collapse before Harshit Rana arrived at the crease and stitched a 56-run partnership with Abhishek. Meanwhile, the soutpaw managed to keep the scoreboard ticking, scoring 68 runs off 37 balls. Harshit, on the other hand, made 35 runs off 33. Soon after Harshit’s dismissal, another collapse was triggered as India posted 125 runs in the first innings.
For Australia, Josh Hazlewood stole the show with his three-wicket haul and conceded just 13 runs in four overs. Xavier Bartlett and Nathan Ellis picked up two wickets each.
