Maharashtra Attracts ₹15.7 Lakh Crore Investments at WEF Davos, Promises 4 Lakh Jobs

The Maharashtra government has recently formalized 54 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) totaling ₹15.70 lakh crore, including a significant agreement exceeding ₹3 lakh crore with Reliance Industries, during the World Economic Forum in Davos.

According to government sources, this collaboration with Reliance Industries is expected to create around 300,000 jobs. Over the past two days, these agreements have been concluded, as announced by the government on Wednesday. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is spearheading the state delegation, which includes Industries Minister Uday Samant and various senior officials.

The investment landscape appears promising, with companies like Amazon committing ₹71,795 crore towards the establishment of data centers in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, projected to create approximately 83,100 jobs. A post from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on X highlighted the MoU with Reliance, worth ₹3,05,000 crore, which is anticipated to generate substantial employment opportunities across multiple sectors, including petrochemicals, polyester, renewable energy, green hydrogen, retail, telecommunications, hospitality, real estate, and more.

The CMO emphasized the significance of this agreement on social media, thanking Shri Anant Ambani and Reliance Industries for their partnership. Additionally, MoUs have been signed across various industries, including textiles, steel and metals, electronics, infrastructure, and defense.

Notable agreements include one for ₹42,535 crore with Vardhaan Lithium in the electronics sector, expected to create 5,000 jobs; a ₹43,000 crore investment commitment from Blackstone in the infrastructure sector; and an MoU with Indorama, which plans to invest ₹31,200 crore in textiles, generating 4,000 jobs. L&T Defence has committed to invest ₹10,000 crore in Talegaon, proposing the creation of 2,500 jobs, while Renaissance Solar & Electronic Materials will invest ₹5,000 crore in green energy, creating 1,300 jobs. Furthermore, an MoU with Greta Energy will lead to a ₹10,319 crore investment in Chandrapur, resulting in 7,000 new job opportunities.

During the World Economic Forum, Fadnavis also engaged in discussions with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair focusing on energy and public transportation. He met with executives from Hyundai Motors and DP World to explore team-ups in industrial parks and logistics.

Moreover, Fadnavis and Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development, Ville Tavio, discussed organizing a “Magnetic Maharashtra” roadshow in Finland and explored investment opportunities in renewable energy, green hydrogen, as well as the chemical and fertilizer sectors. Additionally, he met Jerzy Janeczko, Chief Information Officer of Lonza Group, a leading healthcare manufacturing organization.
