New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has mandated that the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) release Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman from their squad ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. KKR acquired Rahman for ₹9.2 crore, but he will not participate in the forthcoming tournament.
Following the BCCI’s directive, KKR issued an official statement confirming Rahman’s release, noting that they will be allowed to sign a replacement player for him this season.
“Kolkata Knight Riders confirms that BCCI/IPL, as the regulator of IPL, has instructed it to release Mustafizur Rahman from the squad ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League season. The release has been executed following due process and consultations, under the direction of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. BCCI will allow Kolkata Knight Riders a replacement player in accordance with IPL regulations, and further details will be provided in due course,” KKR stated.
Mustafizur Rahman boasts significant experience in the IPL, having represented five franchises and participated in a total of 60 matches. Throughout his IPL career, he has taken 65 wickets at an economy rate of 8.13. With his release, Kolkata Knight Riders could face a challenging lineup as they prepare for the tournament, and it remains to be seen who will fill Rahman’s position in the upcoming season.
