NEW DELHI: Jan Suraaj has nominated Chanchal Singh as its candidate for the upcoming Bihar assembly elections from Raghopur, according to a report by ANI. This decision arises amid speculation that Jan Suraaj chief Prashant Kishor may also run from this RJD stronghold.
Raghopur has a historical connection to the Yadav family, having been represented over the years by notable leaders such as Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi, and currently Tejashwi Yadav, who secured victory in both the 2015 and 2020 elections. Kishor, addressing reporters recently, controversially remarked, “If I contest from Raghopur, Tejashwi Yadav will face the same situation Rahul Gandhi faced in Amethi.” Kishor predicted a potential defeat for Tejashwi, drawing parallels with Rahul Gandhi’s loss to Smriti Irani in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Kishor emphasized that the residents of Raghopur, who previously supported Tejashwi’s family, are currently facing challenges that he believes Tejashwi is neglecting. “He must be scared because of this,” Kishor stated.
Reports indicate that Tejashwi Yadav may consider contesting from two constituencies in the upcoming polls, making Raghopur a critical battleground in the elections. Jan Suraaj aims to present a formidable challenge to the RJD in this constituency.
The Jan Suraaj party recently issued its second list of candidates, which includes 65 assembly seats.
