Prominent Palestinian journalist Saleh Aljafarawi, known for his courageous reporting on the situation in Gaza, has been killed by alleged members of the Dughmush clan backed by Israeli occupation forces. The incident occurred while he was covering events in the al-Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City.
Footage shared by reporters and activists displayed Aljafarawi’s body, identified by a “press” flak jacket, in what appeared to be the back of a truck. He was 28 years old and had been displaced from northern Gaza amid the ongoing conflict. Aljafarawi gained recognition in Gaza for his videos documenting the violence, and he had reportedly received multiple threats from Israeli forces due to his work.
According to reports from TRT World, Aljafarawi was ambushed by armed men and shot seven times. “The beloved Saleh Al-Jafarawi has been murdered. We are absolutely devastated. For two years, he reported on the genocide of his people, only to be killed during the ‘ceasefire,'” stated a post from Wear The Peace on X.
Palestinian journalist Hamza Yusuf expressed his grief, stating, “A mainstay on our screens for two years who risked his life to document the genocide – a huge loss.” The news of Aljafarawi’s death was confirmed, mourning his significant role in highlighting the plight of his people during these challenging times.
