Investor Enthusiasm Remains Strong Despite Tata Capital and LG IPO Competition

Tata Capital and LG Electronics are poised to launch two of the year’s highly anticipated initial public offerings (IPOs) simultaneously, yet market experts anticipate that this overlap will not hinder demand. While this dual offering may challenge retail investors’ capacity to engage, analysts believe that both IPOs will receive substantial subscriptions that surpass their respective sizes.

Tata Capital, affiliated with the Tata group, ranks among India’s leading non-banking finance companies, boasting a diverse portfolio in retail and corporate lending. In contrast, LG Electronics aims to leverage its well-established consumer durables brand and visibility in India to attract investor interest. The combined IPOs are expected to raise around ₹27,119 crore, a significant amount that could encourage additional IPO funding as investors seek participation in both offerings.

Ratiraj Tibrewal, CEO of Choice Capital Advisors, indicated that investor interest will be driven by fundamentals, valuations, and potential listing gains. “Tata Capital, being a well-established domestic NBFC with strong parentage, might attract broader participation. Conversely, LG may draw those looking for exposure in consumer durables and global brand recognition,” he stated.

Despite this optimism, caution is advised for retail investors, who may opt for only one IPO, likely favoring the safer option, according to Tibrewal. He noted that demand for IPO financing is expected to rise, leading investors to maximize allotments in both offerings, which may in turn heighten borrowing costs and make participation among high-net-worth individuals (HNIs) more selective.

Others remain unswayed by potential concerns. “Even smaller IPOs, those under ₹1,000 crore, have attracted subscription levels in the range of ₹30,000-40,000 crore. This suggests that overall market liquidity is robust, enabling both IPOs to succeed,” remarked Narendra Solanki, Head of Fundamental Research – Investment Services at Anand Rathi Share and Stock Brokers.

Institutions may find the overlap beneficial, as it allows them to deploy significant capital across both high-quality offerings. “Rather than competing, they create diversification opportunities within the same timeframe,” said Kamraj Singh Negi, Managing Director – Investment Banking at Pantomath Capital.

Analysts predict that while short-term funding demand could increase during this period, India’s IPO market has consistently demonstrated its capacity to absorb large offerings, positioning both Tata Capital and LG Electronics to secure adequate interest from investors.
