New Delhi: India achieved a world record against Pakistan with their victory in the Asia Cup 2025 final held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, September 28. The Men in Blue successfully chased down a target of 147 runs, with Tilak Varma delivering an impressive unbeaten performance of 69 runs off 53 balls, leading the team to a five-wicket triumph.
This victory marked India’s ninth Asia Cup title and was notable as it was their first clash with Pakistan in the final of the continental tournament. While Varma played a pivotal role in the chase, Rinku Singh secured the win by hitting a four when India required two runs from four balls.
India’s win marked a significant achievement as they recorded their ninth consecutive victory over Pakistan in T20I matches while successfully chasing a target. They have maintained an unblemished record against Pakistan in this format while chasing, achieving a total of nine wins—the highest for any team in successful T20I run chases.
Previously, India was jointly held with Pakistan for having chased down eight targets unbeaten against each other. They were also tied with Malaysia, who accomplished a similar feat against Thailand between 2019 and 2025.
Most wins for a team with a 100% win record while chasing in T20Is:
- India vs Pakistan: 9 wins in 9 matches
- Malaysia vs Thailand: 8 wins in 8 matches
- India vs Bangladesh: 7 wins in 7 matches
- Kenya vs Rwanda: 7 wins in 7 matches

India’s final victory came after a challenging start, as they found themselves at 20 for 3 during the chase. Tilak Varma’s remarkable innings was reminiscent of Virat Kohli’s famous performance in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Melbourne, which also showcased India’s resilience in high-pressure situations.
