Suryakumar Yadav’s Indian team made history by registering the highest T20I score by a full-member side in a match against Bangladesh at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Led by exceptional innings from Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav, along with valuable contributions from Riyan Parag and Hardik Pandya, the Men in Blue posted a massive total of 297/6 in their 20 overs. This surpassed the previous record held by Afghanistan for the highest team score by a full member in T20Is.

The list of highest scores by full-member teams in T20Is now stands as follows:

  1. India: 297/6 vs Bangladesh in 2024
  2. Afghanistan: 278/3 vs Ireland in 2019
  3. England: 267/3 vs West Indies in 2023
  4. Australia: 263/3 vs Sri Lanka in 2016
  5. Sri Lanka: 260/6 vs Kenya in 2007

It’s worth mentioning that Nepal holds the record for the highest team score in T20Is, with 314 against Mongolia in an Asian Games match in 2023.

India narrowly missed the 300-run mark, falling just short due to a flurry of wickets in the final over. Despite being well-placed at 282/4 with Hardik Pandya set at the crease, they lost crucial wickets and ended up at 297. Samson’s blistering century off 40 balls and Suryakumar’s quickfire 75 set the foundation for India’s imposing total.

Bangladesh’s bowlers struggled to contain the Indian batsmen, with five bowlers conceding over 40 runs each. The likes of Rishad Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Taskin Ahmed, and Mahedi Hasan were all expensive, while Mahmudullah, in his final T20I, went for 26 runs in two overs.

Overall, it was a dominant batting display by India, showcasing their firepower and setting a new benchmark in T20I cricket.
