India and Pakistan’s 2025 Asia Cup Final: A Path After Super Four Setback

New Delhi: India secured a decisive victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025, displaying impressive batting prowess during their Super Four clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, September 21. Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill were pivotal in India’s performance, forming a formidable opening partnership that contributed to a 105-run stand, substantially easing the chase of 172 runs.

Abhishek delivered a spectacular performance, scoring 74 runs off 39 balls, which included six boundaries and five sixes. Gill supported him well with a refined innings of 47 runs from 28 balls, featuring eight fours.

Despite Pakistan’s hopes for a comeback when they took the wickets of Gill and Suryakumar Yadav within a span of 15 balls, India’s victory was never in serious jeopardy. Sanju Samson, although struggling with his timing, contributed to the successful run chase. Tilak Varma sealed the win by hitting the final runs off Shaheen Shah Afridi in the 19th over, ending unbeaten on 30 runs from 19 balls, alongside Hardik Pandya, who scored seven runs from as many balls.

Currently, India leads the Super Four stage, while Pakistan finds itself at the bottom of the standings.

Potential Rematch in the Finals

There remains a significant possibility of India and Pakistan facing each other again in the Asia Cup 2025 final, despite Pakistan’s initial loss in the Super Four. Pakistan will next compete against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. A victory in both matches would earn them four points, securing their spot in the final.

On the other side, India is scheduled to play against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka next. Winning both matches would virtually guarantee their advancement to the final, with even a single additional victory likely ensuring their place.

At present, all four teams are vying for a spot in the final. Bangladesh has risen to second place in the Asia Cup standings following their win over Sri Lanka in the Super Four’s opening match. They are set to clash with Pakistan on Tuesday, September 23, before taking on India on Friday.
