A complaint has been registered at Bengaluru’s Koramangala police station after a video showing a man aggressively interrupting what appears to be a Christian prayer programme went viral on social media, triggering widespread outrage and calls for police action.
In the video, the man, identified as Satyanishta Arya, along with a few associates, is seen confronting a Christian priest and members of the congregation. Wearing a tilak, he repeatedly interrupts the programme and questions the priest, asking, “What is Jesus Christ’s book?” When the priest responds, “The Gospel of John and the Bible,” the man launches into a tirade, mocking Christian beliefs and religious texts.
He is heard making derogatory remarks about the Bible, questioning its origins, and asserting the supremacy of Hindu scriptures such as the Vedas, Manusmriti, and the Upanishads. “We will never follow any Christian’s Bible… Jai Shri Ram!” he shouts in the video. He also declares, “Jesus Christ is not ours. Who is ours? Lord Rama, am I right?”
The video further shows him making inflammatory comparisons to the Babri Masjid, suggesting forced religious change, and using abusive language against Muslim cleric Maulana Mehmood Madani.
“Maulana Mehmood Madani is an anti-national… That bastard should be arrested. Can you say that?” he asks.
He also mocks the Christian belief in the virgin birth of Jesus, repeatedly questioning the priest about Mother Mary’s pregnancy and ridiculing the explanation of conception through the Holy Spirit. At several points, he is seen intimidating those present, including telling others not to speak and abusing a woman who questions him.
Following the video’s circulation, the Bengaluru City Police clarified that the man involved is not from Karnataka. Sarah Fathima, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South-East Division, said that although the individual does not belong to Karnataka and neither he nor the handler is based within the Koramangala jurisdiction, a non-cognisable report (NCR) has been registered at the Koramangala police station for further proceedings.
The incident has drawn sharp criticism online, with many users condemning the remarks as hate speech and calling for stronger legal action.
Reacting to the video, Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi said, “As the Christmas festival draws nearer, such violent incidents are on the rise in many states of the country. The criminals seen in this video harbour deep hatred towards Christians. Narendra Modi ji, what kind of country are you building? Will a law like the NSA be applied to these criminals or not?”
Journalist Tamal Saha also questioned the apparent inaction, pointing to what he described as a stark contradiction in the state’s approach.
He alleged that while authorities claim to be searching for “illegal Bangladeshis” in Bengal, the same standards are not applied here.
Saha wrote that the man seen in the video is allegedly Sunnyur Rahman from Bangladesh, now using a Hindu name and symbols such as a tilak, saffron clothing, and chants of “Jai Shri Ram” as a “license to spread hate” in India.
He questioned whether Hinduism should be reduced to a cover for bigotry and warned that the individual was not merely attacking Christians but undermining the nation itself through hate speech. He also criticised the lack of police action, calling the remarks in the video blasphemous.
Bangladeshi journalist Sami further claimed that the man harassing Christians and mocking Jesus Christ is Sunnyur Rahman, an ex-Muslim who later identified as an atheist before adopting the name Satyanisth Arya. According to Sami, the individual now regularly posts hate-filled videos targeting Christianity and Islam and allegedly seeks funds through digital payment platforms such as Paytm and GPay.
