High Court Rules Sunjay Assets Suit Cannot Be Sealed: Key Insights

NEW DELHI: Priya Sachdev Kapur, the third wife of industrialist Sunjay Kapur, has petitioned the Delhi High Court to allow her to submit a list of her late husband’s assets and liabilities in a sealed envelope. During a hearing on Thursday, she expressed concerns that details from the ongoing partition suit were being leaked to the media, which could have significant financial implications.

The court has scheduled a hearing for this matter on October 9. The case originated from a suit filed by Kapur’s first wife, actress Karisma Kapoor, along with their children, Kiaan and Samaira, who are seeking their share of their father’s estate. Sunjay Kapur and Karisma Kapoor divorced in 2016.

Previously, the court instructed Priya to provide a comprehensive statement of Kapur’s personal assets as of June 12. On September 10, she was directed to file the full list. Priya’s attorney, Shyel Trehan, argued that the documents contain sensitive information and requested that at least some pages be kept confidential. However, counsel for Karisma’s children opposed this request. The High Court bench indicated that while limited confidentiality might be granted, sealing the entire suit would not be permissible.

Kiaan and Samaira are contesting Sanjay Kapur’s purported will and are seeking shares in his assets, which are reportedly valued at ₹30,000 crore. Meanwhile, Priya has informed the court that they have already received ₹1,900 crore from the family trust.
