Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian women’s cricket team excelled in the third T20I of their ongoing five-match series against Sri Lanka, securing an eight-wicket victory at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on December 26.
Sri Lanka batted first but was bowled out for a mere 112 runs in their innings. Shafali Verma played a crucial role in India’s chase, guiding the team to victory and clinching the T20I series.
With this win, India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur surpassed former Australia skipper Meg Lanning to become the most successful captain in Women’s T20 International history, achieving her 77th win compared to Lanning’s 76.
After the match, Kaur expressed her happiness about the win and the overall performance of the team. “It was a great series for all of us. That’s what we discussed after the World Cup, that we need to raise our standard and be more aggressive in T20s because the World Cup is coming up. I’m very happy with our overall performances. I think the contribution from our bowlers has been a highlight because, in T20 cricket, the bowling is very important. Today, we are in this position because of our bowlers, so credit goes to them,” Kaur stated during the post-match presentation.
On her strategy regarding the bowling rotation during the powerplay, Kaur noted, “We knew their top order was very important, so today we wanted to go with Renuka as she can give us breakthroughs. The first over wasn’t what we expected, but the way she came back and took four wickets was great.”
