Washington: FIFA awarded U.S. President Donald Trump the inaugural peace prize during the draw for the 2026 World Cup held at the Kennedy Center on Friday. The prize aims to honor individuals who significantly contribute to ending conflicts and fostering a spirit of peace. Trump received a trophy, a medal, and a certificate from FIFA President Gianni Infantino, marking him as the first recipient of this accolade.
Infantino praised Trump, stating, “We want to see hope, we want to see unity, we want to see a future. This is what we want to see from a leader, and you definitely deserve the first FIFA Peace Prize. You can always count on my support to help you make peace around the world. Thank you, Mr. President.”
The event was attended by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, highlighting the collaborative spirit of the upcoming World Cup.
Trump expressed his gratitude and emphasized his contributions to global peace efforts. He remarked, “This is truly one of the great honors of my life. Beyond awards… we saved millions and millions of lives. So many different wars that we were able to end, in some cases just before they started. It was going to be bad, but we got it done.” He concluded his remarks by thanking his family and First Lady Melania Trump.
