New Delhi: The fifth and final T20I between India and South Africa is set to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on December 19. After four matches in the series, India is leading, while South Africa is aiming to level the series.
Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has praised Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav for his leadership skills, despite noting his recent struggles with form. “We do not celebrate Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy as much as we should,” Pathan remarked on Star Sports. “His overall captaincy results are impressive, with an 83% success rate. This is quite exceptional considering the pressure South Africa has exerted in this series.”
Pathan also commented on Yadav’s performance in the T20 format, stating, “Suryakumar’s strength lies in playing well square of the wicket. He tends to stay static against fast bowlers, and teams are adjusting to this. They are employing slower deliveries more frequently, which he must address.”
He further observed, “A pattern is emerging where he is opting for his favorite shots too early. He should consider playing more conservatively, at least initially, and perhaps adopt a more forward approach against fast bowlers. With the World Cup approaching, these adjustments will be crucial.”
