The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is carrying out searches at 25 locations across Delhi and Faridabad, focusing on premises associated with Al-Falah University. This action follows a cyber attack and media scrutiny directed at the institution after the arrest of three doctors connected to an alleged terror module.
Among the locations being searched is the university’s office in Okhla, with raids beginning early in the morning. The main campus, a 70-acre facility, is located in Faridabad. Included in the searches is the residence of Saud Siddiqui, brother of Jawad Ahmad Siddiqui, who is the founder and director of the Al-Falah Charitable Trust.
In addition, Javed Ahmed Siddiqui, founder and chairman of Al-Falah University, has been summoned by the Delhi Police Crime Branch due to allegations of fraud and irregularities highlighted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
The investigation intensified after the November 10 explosion in Delhi. Authorities discovered that Umar Nabi, suspected of driving the vehicle involved in the incident, and another doctor, Muzammil Ganai, both linked to a terror module, were employed by the Al-Falah Medical Research Foundation.
Reports indicate that Siddiqui, who began his career in Mhow in the 1990s, previously operated a venture called Al-Falah Investment Company. According to Mhow Additional Superintendent of Police Rupesh Dwivedi, the family moved to Delhi in 2001 amid allegations of financial misconduct.
Subsequent to relocating from Madhya Pradesh, Siddiqui established the Al-Falah Charitable Trust, which later facilitated the creation of Al-Falah University in Faridabad, Haryana. His brother Hamood Siddiqui has also been arrested in Hyderabad.
Madhya Pradesh Superintendent of Police Yangchen Dolkar Bhutia stated, “We have arrested Hamood Siddiqui from Hyderabad. He operated a share-market investment firm called Al Fahad Fin Com Limited. He, along with his wife and an associate, embezzled crores of rupees by promising nearly 20 percent interest. The company functioned for about two years before he absconded with his family.”
Amid significant media trials and social media campaigns targeting the university, Al-Falah University issued an official statement disavowing any institutional ties to the arrested doctors. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bhupinder Kaur Anand expressed that the university is “deeply saddened and anguished” by the events and condemned them.
The university also refuted claims regarding hazardous materials on its campus, asserting that “no such chemical or material, as is being alleged by certain platforms, is being used, stored, or handled within the University premises,” and stressed that all laboratory operations comply with statutory safety regulations.
Yati Narsinghanand Giri, head priest of Dasna Devi Temple, has made inflammatory remarks suggesting that “terrorist dens like Al-Falah University, AMU, Jamia Millia, and Darul Uloom Deoband should be blown up with cannons by sending in the army.”
On Thursday, the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) suspended Al-Falah University’s membership. The arrests and ensuing investigations have created anxiety among students regarding their academic futures and employment prospects. Critics contend that linking the entire institution—and, by extension, a community—to the actions of a few individuals is both unjust and unwarranted.
