Delhi’s Patiala court granted bail on Saturday to Gaganpreet Kaur, an accused in the BMW accident case that resulted in the death of Navjot Singh, a deputy secretary in the Ministry of Finance, on September 14. Kaur was released on a bond of ₹1 lakh with two sureties of the same amount. Additionally, the court ordered her to surrender her passport.
During the bail hearing, the court noted that an ambulance arrived at the accident scene within seconds but did not transport the injured to the hospital despite being the nearest medical facility available. “What should be done with this ambulance? Are they not accused of the offence of death due to a negligent act?” the court questioned the police concerning the ambulance’s actions.
The court highlighted that the ambulance, equipped with medical personnel, was obligated to assist the injured, stating, “The best-equipped vehicle was present there. The ambulance left the spot within 30 seconds. Is it not medical negligence?” Despite these concerns, the court acknowledged that the paramedics had asked bystanders if anyone required help.
