India Women Clinch 15-Run Victory Over Sri Lanka in Final T20I
Thiruvananthapuram: The India women’s cricket team secured a commendable victory against Sri Lanka in the fifth and final T20I of the series at the Greenfield International Stadium on December 30. The Women in Blue emerged victorious by 15 runs, completing a clean sweep of the series.
The highlight of the match was star all-rounder Deepti Sharma, who claimed one wicket, allowing her to surpass Australian cricketer Megan Schutt and become the leading wicket-taker in WT20I history. Deepti’s record now stands at 152 wickets, overtaking Schutt’s previous mark of 151. She had matched Schutt’s record in the third T20I and aimed to break it in the fourth T20I but went wicketless, leading to heightened anticipation for the final match.
In terms of match performance, India batted first, setting a target of 175 runs, largely thanks to a strong innings from skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. Kaur scored 68 runs off 43 balls, anchoring a team effort where other batters struggled to find form.
Defending their total, the Indian bowlers excelled, restricting Sri Lanka to 160 runs in their chase. Consequently, India secured the match and clinched the series with a final score of 175 to 160.
