The Central Election Committee (CEC) of the Indian National Congress is scheduled to convene virtually on October 8 to determine its candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. The meeting will be chaired by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and key figures including Rahul Gandhi, who will join online from South America, are expected to participate. Other prominent attendees will include Sonia Gandhi, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary, KC Venugopal, Amee Yajnik, Uttam Kumar Reddy, and TS Singh Deo.

The Congress has formed an alliance with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and other left-wing parties such as the CPI and CPI (ML) in Bihar. This coalition aims to challenge the National Democratic Alliance, which includes the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)), and others.

While specific seat-sharing agreements with alliance partners have yet to be announced, the Congress recently concluded its Voter Adhikar Yatra campaign across various districts, led by Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.

Harish Rawat, a senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, commented that Bihar is poised to set a precedent for change in the upcoming assembly polls.

The Election Commission has disclosed that the Bihar Assembly elections will take place in two phases on November 6 and November 11, with vote counting set for November 14. The final list of voters includes approximately 7.42 crore electors. Notably, the draft list saw a reduction of around 65 lakh voters since June 24, resulting in a current draft total of about 7.24 crore electors as of August 1, 2025.
