The Union Minister for Power, Manohar Lal, has pledged support for nine new initiatives funded by the Power System Development Fund, representing a total investment of ₹488 crore. These initiatives are designed to bolster the resilience of the power grid and ensure a reliable electricity supply throughout Telangana.

During a review meeting with the Chief Minister of Telangana and state officials, the Minister highlighted the necessity for the State Government to settle its outstanding dues to DISCOMs in accordance with the agreed-upon schedule, as well as ensuring timely payment of current obligations.

To aid in this effort, Manohar Lal noted that the central government is dedicated to facilitating the installation of smart meters in government offices under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). He also mentioned that Telangana’s proposal under the planned distribution scheme would be given priority. He stressed that enhancing the ratings of Distribution Companies (DISCOMs) could lower interest costs on their debts, thereby improving the financial sustainability of the power sector.

In addition, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to create a Centre of Excellence in Energy Transition at TERI’s Institute of Energy in Hyderabad, with funding of ₹25 crore. This partnership aims to promote advancements in energy efficiency and sustainable energy practices, as stated in a recent release.
