Tej Pratap Yadav, the chief of the Janshakti Janata Dal, announced on Sunday that his security has been enhanced following what he described as a death threat.

Speaking to reporters in Patna, Yadav, who is the estranged son of Lalu Prasad Yadav, a prominent leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), mentioned that increased threats from various enemies have prompted this precaution. “My security has been increased because there is a threat to my life. People will get me killed. There are many enemies who are working (to get me killed),” Yadav stated.

These comments come just days before the second phase of the Bihar elections scheduled for November 11, 2025. Tej Pratap contested from the Mahua constituency, where polling occurred on November 6 during the first phase of the elections.

On a different note, he extended birthday wishes to his estranged brother, Tejashwi Yadav, who turned 36 that day. “It’s Tejashwi’s birthday, and I give him my best wishes. Hope he has a bright future. He has my blessings,” Tej Pratap expressed.

Tej Pratap was expelled from the RJD for six years on May 25 after admitting on social media to being “in a relationship” with a woman, although he later claimed his account had been hacked. Following this incident, Lalu Prasad disowned him due to what he termed as “irresponsible behavior.”

After his expulsion, Tej Pratap formed his own party, the Janshakti Janata Dal, and entered the Bihar Assembly Elections. Competing in the first phase, he faced off against candidates from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and Jan Suraaj, as well as an RJD nominee, Mukesh Kumar Raushan.

On the day of the first phase of voting, he expressed confidence in his electoral prospects. “I am fully confident. I have the blessings of my parents and the public,” he told ANI. He further affirmed, “I am confident the people of Mahua will bless me again. Why won’t they? I have worked for them, and they know it,” according to PTI.

The state is now preparing for the second phase of elections in 122 Assembly constituencies, with results expected to be announced on November 14.
