The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Sunday the squad for India’s upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa, scheduled for November 30, December 3, and December 6 in Ranchi, Raipur, and Visakhapatnam.
KL Rahul has been appointed as captain for the series, with prominent players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli included in the lineup. Notably, Ravindra Jadeja returns to the team after missing the previous series against Australia. Shubman Gill, the regular captain, is unavailable due to a neck injury sustained during the first Test against South Africa.
Shreyas Iyer, who served as vice-captain during the ODIs against Australia, will also not participate as he is recovering from a spleen injury incurred in that series.
Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is making a comeback to the ODI squad after last representing India in the format in August 2024. He is one of three wicketkeepers selected, including Dhruv Jurel.
In another strategic decision, Jasprit Bumrah has been rested following an intensive international schedule. Currently, he is involved in a two-match Test series against South Africa. Bumrah participated in the Asia Cup 2025, followed by the Test series against the West Indies and a T20I series against Australia, but he missed the recent ODIs.
Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja’s inclusion marks his first ODI appearance since the Champions Trophy 2025. Notably, Axar Patel is absent from the squad.
The ODI matches will precede a five-match T20I series starting on December 9.
India’s ODI squad includes: Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Tilak Varma, KL Rahul (Captain, Wicketkeeper), Rishabh Pant (Wicketkeeper), Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, and Dhruv Jurel.
