A group of Bajrang Dal and Hindu Raksha Dal members brutally attacked the family of a minor Muslim girl in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, after a video of her saying she would eat beef went viral.
The assault, marked by hate slogans and obscene abuses, has triggered outrage over the growing culture of Hindutva vigilantism and police inaction in the state.
The mob, led by Hindutva figure Daksh Chaudhary and joined by Prakash Singh, Annu, Akku, Amit, and Abhishek, stormed into the house of the girl in the Tulsi Niketan area of rural Ghaziabad late last week.
The attackers shouted Islamophobic slurs, tried to barge into the family’s house, and hurled the “filthiest abuses” at the girl’s mother.
The main accused in the attack, Daksh Chaudhary, who allegedly instigated the violence against the girl and her family, has several criminal cases registered against him, including slapping former JNUSU leader Kanhaiya Kumar, beating Rohingya Muslim refugees, and attempting to disrupt law and order by wearing shoes inside a mosque in Ghaziabad.
He has a huge following on social media, and despite multiple FIRs against him, he continues to operate freely, amassing a large online audience used to amplify anti-Muslim propaganda.
An FIR has been lodged at Tila Mod Police Station by the police against Annu Chaudhary, Daksh Chaudhary, Akku Pandit, Amit Thakur, and others.
“Annu and Amit have been arrested by the police, while main accused Daksh and others are absconding,” Atul Kumar Singh, ACP, Shalimar Garden, Ghaziabad, told Maktoob.
He added that the police are tracing Daksh, who continues to post defiant videos on social media, saying he has “no regrets” and will “continue fighting for Sanatan Dharma.”
Soon after the incident, Pinki Chaudhary, the Hindu Raksha Dal chief known for his hate speeches against Muslims, joined the hate campaign.
In multiple videos, he called for the girl’s arrest and even suggested bulldozing her family home. “We are fighting for Sanatan Dharma with full strength. Whatever happens, happens. We can go to any extent,” he said in one of his videos. In another video later posted by Daksh Chaudhary himself, the girl appeared beaten and forced to apologise in police presence.
Responding to the action, Chaudhary said in another video, “If you speak against Hindutva, this is the fate you’ll meet. She was barking so much, now she has been rubbed off.”
Speaking to Maktoob, an Inspector at Teela Mod said, “As soon as the video went viral, taking suo motu cognisance, cases were registered against both parties — one against the girl for making provocative statements against Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and another against the men associated with Bajrang Dal and Hindu Raksha Dal for reaching the girl’s house and abusing the family.”
He added, “The girl is a Muslim minor and will be sent for counselling.”
“Two out of five accused who attacked the girl’s family were booked under Sections 191(2), 352, and 79 of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita on 27 October,” the inspector told Maktoob.
However, he said no formal complaints have been filed by either party in the matter.
