AP Government Unveils Initial Tenders for Projects Valued at ₹1206 Crore

The Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) has announced the opening of tenders for construction projects valued at ₹1,206 crore within the Greenfield Amaravati Capital initiative. This move marks a significant step forward in accelerating the development of the new capital, as the government has already sanctioned various projects totaling approximately ₹48,000 crore, aiming to complete the capital’s construction by 2027.

The tenders cover the establishment of essential infrastructure, including roads, drainage systems, and drinking water supply in Zone 5-B, Zone 5-D, and other primary layouts within the capital region. Bids must be submitted by 3 PM in January 2025, with work expected to begin in February.

Additionally, the CRDA is planning to release separate tenders for other major construction projects soon. Key developments in the main capital zone include the assembly building, a high-rise office for the Chief Minister, a new High Court, and significant infrastructure improvements, such as around 579 kilometers of roads.

Residential quarters for Ministers, Legislators, and IAS officers were nearly finished before construction was halted by the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government. With the resumption of these pending works, they are set to be the first projects completed in the capital’s development.

In a gesture to assist farmers, CRDA has encouraged those who contributed land through the pooling process for the capital to proceed with the registration of their returnable plots.

The capital project was initiated during the tenure of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) from 2014 to 2019 but was put on hold by the YSRCP government led by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, which has since proposed a decentralized model for capital functions, distributing executive, legislative, and judicial branches across Visakhapatnam, Amaravati, and Kurnool.
