Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu recently met with Microsoft founder Bill Gates at the World Economic Forum in Davos, with discussions focused on forming partnerships to elevate the state into a global hub for healthcare, education, and innovation, according to an official government statement.

During their conversation, Naidu and Gates deliberated on the establishment of a center for excellence in health innovation and diagnostics in Andhra Pradesh, aimed at delivering state-of-the-art healthcare services. “It was great to reconnect with Bill Gates after a long time. His commitment to technology and innovation continues to inspire many. We explored opportunities for collaboration in health and AI innovation, and I eagerly anticipate the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s involvement in the development of Andhra Pradesh,” Naidu stated in the release.

The Chief Minister highlighted the state’s dedication to harnessing innovation to enhance public health outcomes and extended an invitation to Gates to join the advisory board of a proposed artificial intelligence university planned for Andhra Pradesh. He reassured Gates that the state would be an excellent gateway for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s initiatives throughout South India, providing a robust platform to expand their reach and effectiveness.

In addition, Naidu reached out to technology giant Google, proposing Visakhapatnam as a potential site for a chip design and manufacturing center. He spoke with Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian about the possibility, pointing out that Google is currently producing its own chips for server operations.

On the social media platform X, Naidu shared, “I had a productive discussion with Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, and Andre Nakazawa, manager of International Organization at Google. We talked about the latest technological advancements and the remarkable opportunities available in Andhra Pradesh. With our pool of exceptionally talented youth, we are ready to redefine the tech landscape!”

The Chief Minister also engaged with Muhammad Taufiq, President and Group CEO of Petronas, encouraging investment in the emerging petrochemical hub in Mulapeta. He requested that Petronas consider establishing a global capability center in the state. Petronas plans to invest up to ₹15,000 crore in a Kakinada plant focused on the production of green ammonia, aiming for a capacity of 5 million tons by 2030, as part of its commitment to green hydrogen and green molecules.

Furthermore, Naidu held discussions with Eugene Willemsen, CEO of Pepsi International Franchise Beverages, and Stephen Kehoe, Chairman of the PepsiCo Foundation. He invited them to make Visakhapatnam PepsiCo’s global delivery center and establish a digital hub in the area, alongside proposing the setup of a KurKure manufacturing unit and collaboration with local farmers for supply chain needs.

Naidu also spoke with Hamad Al Mahmeed from the Bahrain Prime Minister’s Office, and Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, CEO of Mumtalakat, emphasizing Andhra Pradesh’s new industrial policies and inviting them to experience its efficient business environment firsthand.

Additionally, he met with Unilever Chief Supply Officer Willem Uijen to discuss a potential ₹330 crore investment in palm oil initiatives in Andhra Pradesh, encouraging the company to consider Visakhapatnam for its technology center.

Lastly, Naidu sought assistance from Roberto Bocca, head of the Centre for Energy and Materials (Cenmat) and WEF executive committee member, to attract global investments in green hydrogen, battery storage, and solar manufacturing. He also requested support from the World Economic Forum for the creation of a clean energy knowledge and skills development center in the state.
