Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) leader Sujat Ambedkar led the Jan Aakrosh Morcha, which was halted by police outside the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad) on Friday afternoon.
The march was organized in response to police actions against two youths, Rahul Makasare and Vijay Wahul. It began at Kranti Chowk and was aimed at protesting the RSS’s membership registration drive within local educational institutions.
According to VBA, police initiated action after the two youths opposed the RSS registration campaign near a government engineering college. Ambedkar criticized the police for arresting the youths, highlighting that the RSS had not filed any formal complaint and asserted that the RSS itself was not a registered organization.
Supporters at the event carried copies of the Indian Constitution and the national flag. During the rally, Ambedkar, accompanied by VBA leaders Siddharth Mokale and Amit Bhuigal, demanded proof of the RSS’s registration. “If ideological organizations are expected to register, the RSS should be no exception,” he stated.
Ambedkar expressed on social media platform X: “In a historic event, Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi organized a protest at the RSS headquarters of Aurangabad. This landmark event is the first in independent India where someone has dared to protest and challenge RSS right outside their gates.”
He elaborated on the intentions of the protest, noting that they aimed to deliver three symbolic gifts to the RSS: a copy of the Constitution, a national flag, and the Maharashtra Public Trust Act to assist the RSS in becoming a registered entity under Indian law. However, before they could reach the office, RSS members reportedly fled, claiming the office was closed. The Deputy Commissioner of Police in Aurangabad accepted the gifts on the RSS’s behalf.
“This once again proves that the RSS still harbors hostility toward the Indian Constitution and the national flag,” Ambedkar claimed, asserting that only the Ambedkarites possess the “political will” necessary to challenge the RSS.
The protest event has been reported on various platforms, with specific emphasis on its significance in the ongoing political landscape in India.
