AIADMK Supports Protest Against DMK’s Inaction on Illegal Drug Trade

AIADMK cadres held demonstrations in Salem and Namakkal districts on Monday, criticizing the ruling DMK government for its alleged inaction against the sale of illegal drugs in the state.

In Salem, protesters gathered at Fort Maiden, adjacent to the Salem Corporation office, chanting slogans against the DMK administration. Former minister S. Semmalai participated in the protest and noted that citizens are beginning to compare the four-and-a-half years of Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s administration with the 33 months under the DMK.

“During our governance, essential commodities remained stable without tax hikes. Now, substances like ganja and other drugs are readily available. The police are constrained in their actions, and no cases are being filed against drug peddlers. It has come to our attention that a DMK functionary is the prime suspect in a significant drug trafficking case. The profits from these illegal activities are reportedly funneled into film productions and election financing,” claimed Mr. Semmalai.

In Namakkal, the demonstration was led by former minister Thangamani.

The coverage was published on March 4, 2024, at 6:32 PM IST.
