Dubai: In a thrilling Super Four match of the Asia Cup 2025, Abhishek Sharma excelled as he led India to a total of 202 runs against Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Sharma’s explosive innings of 61 runs off just 31 balls set a robust foundation for India’s innings. Key contributions also came from Tilak Verma, who remained unbeaten on 49, and Sanju Samson, who scored 39 runs, collectively helping India achieve a formidable score.

Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka countered with a resilient performance, securing his maiden T20I century with a brilliant 107 runs, which kept Sri Lanka within striking distance throughout the match. Despite Nissanka’s efforts, the match ended in a tie, but India clinched victory in the Super Over, marking an exhilarating conclusion to the match.

Abhishek Sharma’s recent form has been exceptional. In his last seven innings since February 2025, he has consistently scored over 30 runs, tying a world record previously shared by India’s Rohit Sharma and Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan. His run spree began with a career-high T20I score of 135 against England, followed by several impactful performances in the Asia Cup, which included three scores in the thirties and three consecutive half-centuries.

As the Asia Cup final approaches, Sharma is in a position to surpass both Sharma and Rizwan by potentially achieving eight successive innings with scores above 30. He also aims to bridge the gap with Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza, who holds the record for five consecutive half-centuries.

Sharma’s aggregate of 444 runs in these seven innings sets a new record for Full Member nations in men’s T20Is, falling just six runs shy of the overall record of 450 runs held by Switzerland’s Faheem Nazir. This statistic represents the highest tally of runs scored by any player from Full Member nations over seven consecutive innings. His impressive strike rate of 216.59 during this phase emphasizes his aggressive batting approach, with only Aaron Finch registering a strike rate exceeding 200 among players with over 400 runs in seven innings.
