The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) engaged in a verbal exchange regarding Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s celebration of Karwa Chauth, with the opposition party ridiculing the grand festivities surrounding the event. In response, the ruling party accused critics of being “enemies of Sanatan Dharma.”

Rekha Gupta celebrated Karwa Chauth on October 10 at the Mukhyamantri Jan Sewa Sadan, an event attended by numerous women politicians, spouses of Union ministers, MPs, MLAs, councillors, and other prominent women.

AAP leader and former minister Saurabh Bharadwaj addressed the celebrations in a video posted on X, questioning the controversy surrounding Gupta’s private celebration with her husband. “Rekha Gupta ji celebrated Karwa Chauth with her husband. What’s the big deal with that? It’s not unprecedented,” he stated during a Diwali Milan event for autorickshaw drivers. He highlighted the presence of security personnel during the celebration, noting, “Look at that video, a security guard is standing there holding her Karwa Chauth thali. His own wife is probably watching and thinking… This is the worth of your vote.”

In response, the BJP condemned AAP’s remarks, suggesting that the opposition party was troubled by the Chief Minister celebrating the festival alongside hundreds of women. “The enemies of Sanatan Dharma are deeply pained to see how the woman Chief Minister of Delhi is celebrating Karwa Chauth with hundreds of women at her Jan Seva Sadan,” the BJP stated on X.

Bharadwaj further shared the full video of his speech, in which he accused the Delhi government of misleading the public regarding its achievements and claimed credit for initiatives established during the previous Arvind Kejriwal-led administration.
