The initial public offering (IPO) of Tempsens Instruments (India) Ltd has generated substantial interest from investors, with bids totaling ₹83,834 crore for the ₹650-crore issue. The company, known for thermal engineering and specialized cable solutions, witnessed a remarkable subscription of 184.07 times against its shares on offer, indicating strong market confidence.

Strong Demand from Various Investor Categories

Tempsens’ IPO saw overwhelming participation across different investor segments. Notably, Non-Institutional Investors (NIIs) led the demand with a staggering 314.44 times subscription rate. Within this category, investors putting more than ₹10 lakh (Big High Net-worth Individuals or BHNIs) achieved a subscription rate of 331.34 times, indicating robust interest from wealthier individuals. Similarly, retail investors subscribed 60.69 times of their allotted shares, while Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs) reserved an impressive 302.88 times. The company’s employee reservation segment also did remarkably well, subscribing 124.95 times.

The strong performance is reflective of a broader trend in Indian public offerings, where investor enthusiasm often correlates with the grey market premium. Estimates suggest that Tempsens’ stock could potentially trade at nearly double its IPO price of ₹285-300.

Financial Aspects and Proceeds Utilization

Tempsens’ IPO consists of a fresh issue valued at ₹95 crore and an offer for sale amounting to ₹555 crore. The net proceeds, calculated at ₹18.134 crore, are earmarked for various purposes. These include capital expenditures for electrical heating and specialized cable solutions, along with ₹55 crore for repaying certain outstanding borrowings. These financial maneuvers come at a time when efficient capital allocation is critical for growth in industrial sectors, especially in thermal engineering.

Anchor investors, including esteemed institutions like SBI Mutual Fund and HDFC Mutual Fund, contributed ₹194.54 crore to reinforce confidence in the offering. This backing from established financial entities highlights the perceived stability and growth potential of Tempsens in its operational sector.

Company Overview and Market Position

Founded in Udaipur, Tempsens specializes in temperature sensing solutions and holds a significant market share of approximately 10.5% in India’s temperature sensor segment. Additionally, it is the sole Indian manufacturer of non-contact temperature sensors, commanding a 21.3% market stake. The firm reported strong financial performance in FY26, with revenue from operations at ₹444.90 crore, representing a year-on-year growth of 17.5%. The consolidated Profit After Tax (PAT) stood at ₹71 crore, reinforcing the company’s viability and investor appeal.

Research reports by Anand Rathi suggest that the company might be undervalued despite the favourable financials, with a price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 35.4x and an enterprise value-to-EBITDA (EV/EBITDA) ratio of 25.64x projected at the upper price band. Their recommendation to “Subscribe: Long Term” indicates that despite the fully priced offering, the company’s growth trajectory could justify a premium valuation.

What This Means

Tempsens’ successful IPO not only underscores the growing interest in the thermal engineering sector in India but also reflects investors’ appetite for high-quality, niche companies. With the ongoing push towards advanced engineering solutions, firms like Tempsens are well-positioned for future growth, particularly amid increasing demand for thermal management solutions across industries. The broad participation across investor categories is indicative of a recovering and confident market environment, contributing positively to the overall Indian economy.
